A cup, a bowl, a plate—each one seems ordinary, but holds its own story. In our daily life, these vessels are companions, flowing through our mundane grasps, home placements, and decorations. Through them we drink, we eat, we collect, and we admire. But what if they could speak? What would they say?
The exhibition, The Cup Speaks, explores everyday objects as storytellers through their design, function, and artistic intervention. Featuring works by faculty members and artists from Harvard Ceramics Studio, this exhibition highlights how vessels communicate with us through the choices made in their form, texture, and details. A handle with unexpected curves, a plate with a playful drawing, a mug carries the artist’s fingerprint; Each decision is its own language, shaping our interactions in subtle but significant ways.
In the early morning, grabbing a warm mug while making a hot tea, or in the quiet intimacy of setting a table for family and friends, these vessels speak to us. They are more than tools–they are messengers, carrying memory, tradition, and personal expression.
In this exhibition, audiences are invited to listen, to notice, to hold an object and consider: What story does it tell? And how does it become part of your own?
